The water is warming up and we are already starting check out dives.  That means the first Mai Tai charters and fun dives are just around the corner to.

May is the Month to Experience the Thrill of Diving!

I remember a phrase from an old nursery rhyme that went “April showers bring May flowers.”  It also means the water is starting to warm up and the Wisconsin dive season is starting to blossom too!  This year, Deep Blue is designating May as National Discover Scuba Month.  We will offer free Discover Scuba experiences on Saturday May 24th from 1pm to 3:30pm at the Deer Creek Elementary School Pool in St. Francis.   Our goal is simple; enable more people to experience the thrill of scuba diving.  We are also incorporating the Discover Scuba Experience into the Deep Blue Dive Challenge. 

Bring a friend to this Discover Scuba Experience and when they sign up to complete their own Open Water (or an advanced) certification, you will earn credit towards your personal Dive Challenge.  For more details, stop by your favorite Deep Blue Dive Center to reserve your spot then bring your friends and family to join us at the pool and experience the thrill of scuba diving. 

Meet the Author of Shadow Divers

The Franklin Public Library is hosting author Robert Kurson on Sunday May 18th at 1:30pm.  Mr. Kurson wrote the book Shadow Divers .

This is your opportunity to meet the man who detailed the epic quest of John Chatterton and Richie Kohler as they uncovered the mystery of a sunken German U-boat found off the coast of New Jersey.  The library is requesting people make reservations and space is limited to 100 attendees.  To reserve your spot, contact the Franklin Public Library at 425-8214.

Bonaire Fun in Photos!

On March 22, a group of Deep Blue divers departed for Bonaire for a week of unlimited shore diving and exquisite boat diving  at the world famous, Buddy Dive Resort.  An early spring weather system blew through the islands a few days before our arrival.  Instead of the usual 150 foot visibility, we had to make do with just 95 foot visibility.  It was a hardship worth enduring given the pristine condition of the reefs and bounty of sea life to photograph.   Check out the slide show by clicking on the photo above to see some of the exciting photos. 

Also, Deep Blue is returning to Roatan in June.  We’ll be departing Milwaukee for another wonderful week of reef diving. 

Dive Challenge Update

The Deep Blue Dive Challenge is becoming more popular!  We reported earlier that two Deep Blue Divers completed their Dive Challenge when they attended The Ghost Ships Festival.  Tim D. and Lester R.  completed their six Dive Challenge events to earn the illustrious designation as Dive Challenge winners #1 and #2.  During the Bonaire Trip, we had several divers taking additional classes to better their dive skills and attain the designation of Dive Challenge Winner.

Dive Master and Instructor

The next time you see Kevin Pegelow, be sure to give him a hearty “Dive On!”  Kevin completed his Instructor certification in March and has already conducted his first Open Water class and pool session. 

Another avid Deep Blue diver has attained his professional rating by earning his Dive Master certification!  If you see Manny Lofdahl at the pool or in a store, be sure to give him a hearty “Dive On!” to recognize this significant achievement.
