Day Six: The
Blue Hole
OCTOBER 27, 2005 - This was
the day that we were waiting for - the famous
Blue Hole Day! Belize's Blue Hole is one of a
handful of mythical destinations that every diver
hopes to dive. Little did we know it was one of
the amazing thrills of the day.
The boat pulled anchor from the Sandbox in the
morning and slowly made her way toward the Blue
Hole. The hole, a ancient collapsed cavern, sits
in the middle of Lighthouse Reef, in the center
of a maze of channels that needed to be carefully
navigated by the light of day. Because of the
extreme depth of the dive (130 ft. to the first
ledge, this was a "guided tour" with
a set bottom time of 8 minutes. Swimming beneath
the hole's ledge with its giant encrusted stalactites
makes you truly feel small.

After the Blue Hole, the Aggressor stopped of
of the Lighthouse just off of Halfmoon Caye. At
this point, the group split up. Several of the
group decided to take a land tour, while other
opted to get an extra dive in. For those that
stayed for the dive, they were treated to a visit
from a pair of dolphins that allowed us to swim
with them for nearly 10 minutes.
