Deep Blue signs up with NASCAR!

Not everyone can say, “I help sponsor a NASCAR team.”

Team Scuba and Diver Down Motor Sports introduced the first dive-themed race car at this year’s DEMA Show, October 31-November 3, at the Orange Country Convention Center in Orlando. Driven by 16 year-old Ray Black Jr., the car will compete in the NASCAR Busch East Series during the 2008 racing season.  Most races are along the east coast, but several events are in Iowa and Minnesota.

Team Scuba fields not one, but two distinct racing vehicles: A Chevy Monte Carlo and a Chevy Colorado truck. Doing so allows us to not only compete in two different classes, but to gain twice the exposure as we would competing in a single class.

The vehicles are painted as a dive flag, and the hope is to introduce the world of diving to the hundreds of thousands of NASCAR fans throughout the country. Major sponsors of the car include NAUI, DAN, and Dive Training magazine.

The driver is filled with talent and determination, 16-year-old Ray Black Jr. took the Florida Mini Cup Racing Association (FMCRA) Junior All Star series by storm. At the age of 15 he not only finished in the top five in every race, bit collected seven wins. The team secured the Championship for the FMCRA Junior All Stars, making him, FMCRA's “Rookie of the Year for 2006.”

Now, in 2007, Ray Black, Jr. is running a Late Model Stock Car and a Pro Truck in 18 races at eight different tracks across the southeast. He also plans to visit various tracks to test and tune the vehicles at select NASCAR Busch East locations later this year.
